Gabriel

My name is Gabriel. I was born on July 5, 1993. Almost an Independence Day baby. I am very tall for my age, so people always think I am older than I am.

My big interest these days is in acting and singing. I was recently Aladdin in Aladdin Jr, participated in Footloose at my school, and was in Pied Piper Players' Narnia, The Wiz, Honk!, Hillbarn Theatre's Broadway Legends, and the Ringmaster at my old school's end-of-the-year show. My favorite part was as Little Joe Harper in Pied Piper Players' Tom Sawyer, in which I had a speaking and singing part. It was a lot of work, but I loved it. Other things I have done in this area are Hillbarn Theatre's Godspell Jr., and I had the lead in my school play (I was Willy Wonka). My interest started with a 2-week Summer Shakespeare camp 2 years ago. Now I can't get enough!

There were always big themed parties for my birthday. Recently I gave that up.

Birthdays

I have been taking piano lessons since 1998. This picture was taken at my recital in May 2003. You can see and hear one of my recital songs from that year, Musetta's Song, and one from last year's recital Beethoven's 5th. I took a break from piano this year to learn the saxophone in my school band. It's been interesting, but I think I like the piano better. I played the sax at my voice recital.

I have also been singing, and this is a song from my first voice recital: I'd Do Anything. Recently I put the singing and the piano together in a rendition of Girl From Ipanema. My choir also sang the national anthem at the SF Giants game.

Other interests:

• Languages: I am learning to speak Portuguese. I also talk A LOT in plain English. It's hard to stop talking sometimes, and it's impossible to stay quiet and stay still.
• Books: All kinds. One of my favorites is Harry Potter, but my absolute favorite is Eragon.
• TV and Big Screen: I like movies, especially actions and comedies. On TV, I like MTV, VH1, and Comedy Central.
• Sports: I play soccer in AYSO. I also love to swim. Since I am so tall, I am hoping to be a good basketball player. I was in the A team for the 6th grade this year. I also started Track and Field.
• Other interests: Dancing, traveling and to party.
• Favorite subject in school: Drama. I'm also pretty good at Math.
• I love babies too. Lately I have been beaming with pride -- my baby sister Isabela arrived in October 2000 and she is the cutest and smartest baby I have ever seen! I am so happy to have a sister now. I am a good big brother and help my parents take care of the baby. Mostly, I entertain her by making her laugh at how silly and wild I am. Problem is that she is also bossy, so she takes advantage of me. I get back at her by taunting her sometimes just for the fun of it.
